Expert Tips For Creating Super Blogs

Okay, so you’ve got your camera up and running and a script in place! Five minutes is all you have to grab eyeballs and attention. But, have you got the technique right? Not everyone with a cam and an idea is a good vblogger. Here are some tips to stand out from the crowd:

  1. Choose subject with panache: What is it that you are planning to tell and show the world? Popular genres are personal tales, stunts/weird stuff, journo angst and family vblogging. Personal tales with lot of emotion, eye ex-pressions and some sniffing and sobbing with a strong script are usual hits but the subject better be something serious not just your fav t-shirt getting eaten by the dog. Personal tales of humor or love are the most popular. If you can do something real cool like balance a coin tower on the tip of your nose or tongue, you got it made. Tricks are a sure-shot hit. Be original though. If you couldn’t find a slot on television and want your five-minutes of fame telling a local neighborhood story without the editor snipping off bits, vblogging is perfect. Family vblogging is a wee bit personal but then, you decide how much you wish to share. If you have a business or commercial establishment, vblogs are great for advertising.
  2. Create a character of your own to run a vblog series or create a new genre like ‘phone calls’ which you can develop into a series of different people and how they talk on phones!
  3. Good looks and camera savvy subjects: Even though beauty is skin deep sorry folks, vblogging works with photogenic people. Will chubby Mr Neighbor work as well as the cutie-next-door? Fat chance!
  4. Script: Keep the script short and sweet. Don’t use heavy words and literary language. A script is meant to highlight the visual bit. Limited time means start off on the topic immediately. But don’t go on and on just because you have the time. Don’t be pompous either. Be friendly, simple and fun.
  5. Equipment & technique: Try filming in bright light. Once you upload the video a certain bit of fuzzing will take place and if you cam is not of a good res, the entire posting will go for a toss. Go for good resolution cameras. Ensure crisp sound quality. Try proper editing and props or good background at least. They say vblogs are usually unedited but so what, you can do it. Vblogging is an art. Pay attention to every small thing. Add text titles and sub-titles if you wish. But use them to highlight the presentation not cram them in.
  6. Overact and dramatize: Yeps. This works. Go for it. Be hilarious, over the top and as crazy as you can get. Stuff that may be too much on television works well on vblogs.
  7. Feedback: Ask for it. It’s understood that people can scribble a few comments but if you can add a line in the vblog asking for feedback, it sets up a connection with the viewers.
